What are Pets at Home workshops?

Pets at Home workshops (also known as Pet Pals sessions) are free, in-store activities designed to introduce children to animals and teach them about responsible pet ownership.

Each session is led by trained pet care advisors and includes a mix of learning, play and creative activities.

  • Meet animals such as guinea pigs, hamsters, fish and more
  • Learn how to care for different pets
  • Take part in quizzes, puzzles and colouring activities
  • Get hands-on experience in a safe, supervised environment

Who are the workshops for?

Pet Pals workshops are designed for children aged 4–10 years, making them ideal for younger primary school children.

Sessions are kept small to ensure a calm environment for the animals, so each child must attend with one adult.

How long do sessions last?

Each workshop lasts around 45 minutes and includes a mix of:

  • Animal meet and greet
  • Learning about pet behaviour and care
  • Fun activities and games

This makes them a great short activity to fit into a shopping trip or day out.

Every child who takes part receives:

  • An official Pet Pals certificate
  • A sticker
  • Activity sheets to take home

It’s a lovely way to build confidence and give children a sense of achievement.

Why parents love Pet Pals workshops

  • Free activity during school holidays
  • Educational and interactive
  • Builds confidence around animals
  • Short and easy to fit into the day
  • Great introduction before getting a pet

Our experience of Pet Pals workshops

Across the My Town Rocks network, our local site owners have attended Pet Pals workshops in multiple towns - and they consistently get great feedback from both parents and children.

What stands out is how relaxed and welcoming the sessions are. The staff are brilliant with children, taking the time to explain things clearly and making sure everyone feels comfortable around the animals.

Children love getting up close to the pets, and the mix of learning and play keeps them engaged from start to finish. It’s one of those activities that feels both fun and genuinely worthwhile.
